No Immediate Plans for Mortal Kombat Sequel or DC Crossover

NetherRealm Studios will always be known as the developer responsible for Mortal Kombat, but if you thought their shift to a fighting game based on the characters of DC Comics was groundwork for a future crossover -- you'd be wrong!

CVG are reporting comments from NetherRealm Creative Director Ed Boon, who says development of Injustice: Gods Among Us as a separate series will likely prevent any future meeting between the two franchises.

Never say never, of course, but we loved how our last Mortal Kombat game was strictly Mortal Kombat. And when you think about it, the last Mortal Kombat game we did, it really had the essence of the series more so than any other game in years.

With Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, there's two pretty different audiences; one which wants to see violence and blood, and there's another that wants to see grand superhero moments. We were kind of balancing on a fence trying to accommodate both audiences with Mortal Kombat vs. DC.

Europe Gets Uncensored Joker Fatality in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

We reported earlier that the ESRB had forced Midway to tone down several of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe's fatalities so that the game could receive a T rating (as presumably mandated by DC Comics and its parent company Warner Bros). On the other hand, Videogamer.com is reporting that the Joker's fatality, and probably others, will be uncensored in Europe, thanks to the different ratings system used there. From the article:

Midway Releases Boss Renders and Dev Blog Entryfrom MK vs DCU!

This afternoon, Midway released the renders for the final two characters from the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. These two are, of course, the two boss characters who eventually merge to become the final boss, Dark Kahn. Representing the MK side is the emperor of Outworld, Shao Kahn, looking pretty much the same as he has in previous incarnations. Representing the DC universe is the dread lord of Apokolips, Darkseid, looking very similar to his comic counterpart with a more muted color scheme. Both are shown with their respective throne rooms as their backgrounds.

Fatalities in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Get Toned Down

Kotaku is reporting that Midway is having to tone down several of the fatalities in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe in order to secure a T rating from the ESRB. Kitana was one character whose fatality was changed in order to secure the rating. However, another character whose fatality was changed to secure the rating was the Joker's, and in fact it was his first fatality seen that got changed: the joke gun fatality. From the article:

Baraka & Lex Luthor Renders Released on WorldsCollide.com

Today two brand new renders have been released from the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. The renders released are of the Tarkatan brute Baraka, and genius arch-villain of Superman, Lex Luthor. Both characters stand, battle ready against chaotic backdrops. Baraka's outfit appears to have a stronger similarity to his Deception appearance, sans the bone detailing. While Lex Luthor is clad in his power suit, making him a formidable foe against Superman and the rest of the Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe line-up.
